DIY | Easy Shredded Tank Top

HOLA!

Here is a super easy and quick DIY project perfect to wear on summer days and to music festivals!

MATERIALS:

  • Plain Tee (found at target)
  • Ruler
  • Duct tape
  • Scissors

Prep:
Start by cutting small and medium sized pieces of duct tape. The duct tape will allow us to tape guidelines for cutting and allow easy removal afterwards.

LETS GET STARTED:

1. Begin with using your medium sized pieces of tape to outline how you want your t-shirt to be cut out. I wanted mine to be a muscle tank so I gave myself more space from the collar of the shirt to make my straps fatter. Feel free to stick and peel the tape repeatedly until you reach your desired shape.

2. Then you will cut along the outer side of the duct tape because it is always better to cut less than more. You can always trim off more fabric if you want your straps to be smaller afterwards.

3. Then fold your shirt neatly in half and use the side you cut off as a guideline to cut the other sleeve off.

4. Your shirt should look something like this. Then, have the backside of your shirt facing up so you can begin prepping for the shredding.

5. Use the small-sized pieces of tape and a ruler to tape 1-inch measurements along the entire back of the shirt. You will want to do this on both the left and right side of the shirt.

6. Your shirt should look like this after you are done.

7. Now you can use the tape guidelines to help you eyeball the cuts across the shirt. Use your scissors and just cut the lines as best as you can. You do not need to make it look perfect. The beauty of cotton/jersey material is that once it is stretched, all your imperfections will be hidden.

8. Your shirt should look like this once it is all cut up. You can see that not all of my cuts are perfect. But don't worry, magic will happen soon!

9. Now you will use both hands to tug on the left and right side of each strip. This will curl up the strips and create a much cleaner desired look.

10. Magic* Your shirt will look something like this. All the strips now look much neater and should drape nicely! :D All you have left to do is peel off the duct tape and you will be ready to wear it!

ENJOY ! :)
